#AllYOU: Capital x Kickspotting
For the past decade, the Philippine sneaker culture has grown leaps and bounds. Back then, the community was just limited to the die-hard collectors and enthusiasts who religiously tracked release dates and drops.
Today, a quick survey of the physical and digital landscape will reveal that the sneaker industry in the Philippines is definitely alive, growing and kicking! With sneaker shops and social media accounts dedicated to kicks sprouting here and there, the present and future of the sneaker industry excites shoe lovers, casual wearers and everyone in between.
With Capital being a part of this community and celebrating its third-anniversary, it feels right to celebrate the original sneaker influencers that have been around for as long as we can all remember. Capital is proud to tell the stories of Kickspotting and Sole Movement – our partners in sneaker evangelization and fellow sole lovers.
A tight-knit community bonded by sneaker affinity.
Six years ago, when Kickspotting started, the sneaker community was alive, but was far from being connected. Joey Puno, its founder, had a vision in mind – bring people closer to the sneaker scene, one Instagram post at a time. He began by visiting sneaker releases and showcasing the kicks on feet of his fellow sneakerheads while they lined up to cop the newest drop.
Slowly but surely, people began gravitating towards not just the new drops, but surprisingly even more so towards the shoes people wore every day. With his clout growing, Kickspotting saw it fit to become every local sneakerhead’s go-to source for the latest news on the Philippine sneaker scene.
His formula was simple. If something came out, whether it was a general release or a collaboration, Kickspotting wanted to get the word out as soon as possible. For Joey, this entailed live coverages and real-time updates which was definitely not a problem as he would be there even if he didn’t run one of the most popular sneaker IG accounts today.
Behind the Design
Kickspotting chose the Air Max 270 as it is one of his most favorite pairs of 2018. The combination of the biggest Nike Air unit and breathable mesh provide him a comfy option as he tracks down everything going on in the sneaker world. Kickspotting kept it simple yet classy by opting for white, black and gold on his bespoke sneaker.
In terms of design, the city skyline adorns the Air Max 270's upper because of Joey's unwavering commitment to go everywhere just to bring the latest drops, deals and events. A basketball hoop on the left toe box represents his undying passion for arguably the most popular sport in the Philippines.
Rounding out the design is the year 2012 etched on the right toe box which commemorates the year Kickspotting began.
